Healthy Baking Substitutions

Now with the new year here I don’t think it’s right for us to continue some baking habits that continue to hurt us a bit when we can easily change them. So it’s all about those baking substitutions that we didn’t know we desperately needed, and the cool thing is that they’re quite simple.

Did you know you can substitute Flax and Water for Eggs? ‘Cause I didn’t!

Well, if you’re watching your cholesterol this is a good substitute for eggs! In baking eggs are usually used as a means to combine dry ingredients. So the ratio is for every egg you need, combine 1 Tablespoon of ground flax seeds with 2 Tablespoons of water. Mix well and let it set for about 10 to 15 minutes, you should find yourself a mixture that looks gelatinous that’s ready to be poured into your baking mixture!

Did you know you can substitute Coconut Oil for Vegetable Oil?

When possible avoid using vegetable oil in your recipes- skip on the polyunsaturated fats, and use coconut oil! Melt the coconut oil to a liquid form and then you can substitute equal amounts. Coconut oil is much better than vegetable oil because when the coconut oil is heated it won’t become damaged and it won’t produce harmful toxins. Your body will thank you too!

Did you know you can substitute Apple Sauce for Any Kind of Oil? (This one is new to me!)

Are you trying to not use oil in your recipes at all? Good news, it’s totally possible by using Apple Sauce instead! Replace the oil with the same amount of oil. Side note: make sure to use unsweetened apple sauce because sweetened apple sauce contains sugar and can change the texture.

Did you know you can substitute Leaner Creamer for Any Other Kind of Coffee Creamer?

Yup! It’s totally true. Our competitor’s coffee creamer is often high in sugar and in calories which often masks the true flavor of the rich coffee beans that you use for every cup of coffee! Instead use Leaner Creamer, it comes in the original and hazelnut flavors (I prefer hazelnut but I’ll take any flavor over any other coffee creamer!) With only ten calories a scoop you can’t help yourself and not feel guilty when your coffee tastes rich and creamy! (I mean we wouldn’t either!!) And as added bonus you can add Leaner Creamer to your favorite baked goods!
