In a world where we’re constantly being incentivized to engage with our screens and other various devices, there is something to be said for limiting the amount of time we spend on social media. While participation in the social media race can sometimes be required due to whatever job a person might have, it can still be extremely beneficial to limit or cutback on the engagement with these platforms. There are lots of possible benefits, like…
- It will stop eating your time
All the little moments throughout the day when you check your Facebook feed or browse Instagram’s tiny hilarious videos adds up after a while. We aren’t going to imply that every waking moment a person lives should be aimed at being more productive on the job or what have you, but we are going to question if whether spending an hour watching a hundred one minute videos that you aren’t going to remember as soon as they’re over.
- You’ll play the comparison game less
So much of social media these days is not actually interacting with the other people on it, but snooping around and looking at their profiles. If you want your life to be less about comparing yourself to people you haven’t seen or talked to in years, just stop looking.
- It won’t tax your mind
There’s the way social media eats our time and the way it gets us comparing ourselves to others. It can also make us angry. And at the end of the day, it might not be worth it to get incensed over the political content that a former coworker you haven’t seen in years posts.
- You’ll make room for more meaningful interactions
A benefit to not being on social media as much, is that you’ll actually be interacting with people rather than just lurking around their online presence.
- You’ll feel better
It won’t happen right away, but all these things do add up and if you start abstaining from social media you are bound to notice some benefits. And ultimately, maintaining good health overall is not just the big battles we fight, but lots of little things that add up to the whole picture.
