Cold v Hot Shower Benefits

So recently my family and I began to have a heated discussion over the temperature of our showers. Yeah sounds like a topic that shouldn’t ignite such a response but it did and now you’re involved!

Do you take hot or cold showers?

I prefer hot showers! Now my excuse is that after a very long day I love to rewind with a hot shower because it acts as a muscle relaxer. And something about being in a hot shower allows me to reflect on my day. Now this is when the argument begins because my some of my family members actually enjoy cold showers. They say it makes them feel more energized and for them the cold showers actually lessen the chances of muscles cramping especially after a rigorous workout.

But here’s the truth!

Cold Showers:

Improves Alertness:

This is true because when cold water falls on your body it will increase your breathing as a response to the cold water. The breathing will increase your heart rate and increase your oxygen intake, overall giving you more energy.

Stimulates the immune system: A cold shower helps increase the amount of white blood cells that fight disease on the daily.

Relieves muscle cramps: Similar to athletes taking ice baths. A cold shower can help your muscles relieve sore muscles.

And other benefits:

Speeds up metabolism

Improves your mood

Gives you energy

Improves concentration

Improves circulation

Helps relieve depression

Hot Showers:

Relieves nasal congestion: The steam from the shower can help relieve the inflammation that comes along with a stuffy nose.

Reduces anxiety: A hot shower or bath can be perfect for those with anxiety. It can create an environment that helps soothe you rather than increase tension.

Eliminates insomnia: Since a hot shower allows more blood and oxygen flow into the muscles throughout the body it helps you feel more ready to get some good night’s sleep.

And other benefits:

Relieves tiredness

Relaxes muscles

Relieves headaches

Reduces swelling
