Beginners Guide to Meal Prepping
Meal prepping has been all over the food scene for months now, and for good reason. This trend is the easiest way to save time and money, as well as help you keep a healthy diet. It calls for preparing meals at the beginning of your week and portioning them out for every day of the week. This fad is a fantastic way to ensure that you have healthy, balanced meals every day. However, it can be daunting to think about the process of starting this task. So here are some tips and tricks:
1. Figure Out What You Like to Eat
What you prep will be different than everyone else because you have your own specific taste palette. Make sure that you will like what you are prepping because you will be essentially eating it for the next couple of days. If you don’t like what you’re making, then what’s the point of doing it at all! Along with this, make sure that the foods you are prepping stay good for a couple of days. Some foods you should avoid prepping with are crunchy foods, seafood, and soft fruit.
2. Get the Proper Containers
In order to be able to store your meals, you need to have the right containers. You don’t need a whole array of shapes and sizes for your containers, you can start small and just get a batch of matching plastic—or glass if you don’t want to use plastic—containers. You can eventually graduate to more complex, and expensive, containers that have divided compartments.
3. Start SMALL!
Don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to cook a complex meal to impress your coworkers or friends. Start with a basic meal—some sort of carb + vegetable + protein combo—that you know well. This will help you stick with meal prepping, rather than fizzle out of this lifestyle trend when it becomes too much to keep up with.
4. Make a Plan and a Grocery List!
Make sure to plan out what you want to eat in the following week and then shop for it! Nothing is worse than starting a recipe only to realize that you don’t have all of the ingredients you need. So, make sure to check that you have everything you need for a healthy and balanced meal!
That’s it! Enjoy your tasty, healthy meals every day that’ll help you live a balanced life. Let us know how meal prepping has changed your life in the comments below!
