Why Women Should Lift Weights

Why Women Should Lift Weights

If you aren't lifting yet, now is a good time to start! Here is why it's so important for women to lift weights to stay healthy and lean!

Weightlifting has so many amazing health benefits for women, which is why it has become more and more popular in recent years. It's not just for girls looking to get into bodybuilding -- weightlifting is also great for those looking to get leaned and toned, and those looking to improve their overall health. Here's why weightlifting should be incorporated into your workout routine:

  • Great for fat loss

When we think of fat loss, we often think of insane amounts of cardio and running on the treadmill for hours. Aside from the fact that that sounds awful, cardio also burns not only fat, but muscle too. If you're trying to lose fat but remain or gain tone, then weightlifting might be the answer for you. Also, since weightlifting allows you to continue burning fat after you finish working out, it's actually more effective than just cardio for burning fat!

  • Improve sleep

Studies show that resistance training has beneficial effects on an individual's sleep quality. It helps you sleep longer and more deeply, waking less often in the night. If you suffer from any sleep issues, or just have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep in general, it might benefit you to try weightlifting as a method to improve your sleep.

  •  Increased Energy

Studies show that over time, lifting weights can lead to an increase in overall energy. This means you can power through your morning meeting, your 12 o'clock presentation, and still have energy to spare to run errands after work. How great does that sound? Grab a coffee and some weights, and you've got the recipe for a productive, energy-filled day!

  • Healthier Bones

Women in particular need to be conscious about the health of their bones. This is because as we age, our bones are more susceptible to osteoporosis, particularly after menopause. Resistance training allows us to combat that, keeping our bones healthy and strong.
