Power Through Spring Smoothie!
Power Through Spring Smoothie!
By Brooke Simone
Spring is finally in the air! For some, this means the snow is gone (hopefully!) -- and for others, it means means spring cleaning.
But for many of us, we find ourselves stuck in a rut between falling off of our New Year’s Resolutions and frantically putting in overtime to get that ideal summer body. Luckily, there’s still time to accomplish a healthy transformation in time to hit the beach.
I’m here to give you this morning’s recipe for success to help you get back on your feet, get motivated, and get going!
Start your morning by rolling out your yoga mat and doing some light stretching and ab work. Even 20 or 30 minutes will help awaken your mind and body and rejuvenate you for the day ahead. I like to focus on the areas of my body that I worked out the day before -- if I’m coming off of a heavy leg day, I’ll focus on quad stretches, the hurdler’s stretch, some side lunges, and seated figure fours. Finish off with some Russian twists and reverse crunches to get your core going. I promise you, you won’t regret taking the few extra minutes to pack in a quick active recovery workout!
Afterwards, it’s important to give your body the right fuel. One of my favorites is this delicious power-packed tropical smoothie bowl:
- ½ banana
- 1 handful of frozen fruit (mangoes, pineapples, strawberries are some of my favorites)
- 1 Sambazon frozen acai packet
- ½ cup almond milk
- 3 tsp Leaner Creamer
- 1 Tbsp maca powder
- 1 Tbsp protein powder (any kind you like!)
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
Blend these ingredients together on high -- adding either more frozen fruit or a splash almond milk to get the consistency you’d like. Then, top it off with some crunch to leave you satisfied! I love finishing mine with toasted coconut, chia seeds, blueberries, raspberries, and some walnuts.
Now that you’ve started your day with powerful antioxidants and a quick power workout, you’re ready for anything!
