10 Great Ways To Start Your Day
Let's be frank -- some days are easier than others. So what do you do when you wake up and you just know it's going to be one of "those days"? Do you throw in the towel? No way! Instead, try one of these tips to start any day (even Mondays!) off on the best foot possible.
1. Make your morning coffee a relaxing ritual.
Taking a short relaxing moment each morning is a wonderful way to start your day. Instead of rushing around with your cup of coffee like a chicken with her head cut off, try making it a relaxing, serene 15 minutes. Turn on your most relaxing playlist, light a candle or incense, sit by a well lit window, and take some time to sit, sip, and enjoy. Perhaps read a chapter of a new book, or enjoy a crossword puzzle, or perhaps write out your to-do list. But make sure to put all electronics out of arms reach. This is your moment to wake up and be present!
2. Stretch
A good yoga session, or even just a deep, 10-minute stretch is the perfect way to start off your day. 8 hours of sleep makes your muscles tight and tense, so you'll need to lengthen them out to feel your best for the day. You'll be amazed at what a difference it makes.
3. Exercise
When you exercise in the morning, you are setting your day up to be productive and you are setting yourself up to make good decisions. On top of that, nothing is a more effective energy boost than a 45 minute gym session (except, of course, your favorite cup of coffee + Leaner Creamer ♡).
4. Reflect on what you're thankful for.
Practicing gratitude is extremely important in developing a happy and healthy mindset. It is a quick way to start your day off on the right foot. Ask yourself -- What happened yesterday that you are thankful for? What are you looking forward to today? What overall in your life is going so right at the moment? Think of as many good things as you can, and you'll be smiling all day long!
5. Listen to an inspirational podcast.
A positive, inspirational podcast can set the tone for the day. Listening to someone talk in a manner that lifts you up is an amazing start to a good day. There are thousands of great, and free, podcasts out there. You just have to find the one that's right for you!
6. Plan out your whole day.
Sitting down with a pad of paper and a pen, and taking the time to map out your day will reduce stress and increase productivity. Make sure to include the times you want to accomplish each thing at, and write down your whole to do list as well! You'll end the day having accomplished more than you thought possible!
7. Focus on cooking a healthy, delicious breakfast.
Instead of grabbing a sugary donut, or worse, eating nothing at all, spend your morning creating a delicious homemade breakfast just for you. Purchase the ingredients the day before in anticipation, so that the day of you can just make it and go. Our suggestions? Avocado toast on whole wheat bread, an omelet packed with veggies and herbs, or a smoothie bowl! You'll feel great and energized all day long!
8. Journal.
Did you know journaling is one of the best ways to relieve anxiety and improve your mood? I don't know about you, but a day that begins by releasing anxiety and with a happy mindset seems pretty dang amazing. Whip out your journal and your favorite pen set and write about whatever. There are plenty of journaling prompts online that you can utilize, or you can simply choose to freestyle it! The choice is yours!
9. Determine your intentions.
You woke up this morning to accomplish something. What is it? Perhaps you want to work closer towards a goal in your career, or focus on being a supportive spouse or friend, or maybe you want to make today a healthy day. Figure out what you want your focus of this day to be, and work towards it!
10. Clean your room.
A clean room is essentially a clean slate. You'll think better and feel better with a room free from mess and distractions. Clear out the clutter so that your own personal space can be an area of serenity, not a mess of stress.
