Benefits of the Keto Diet
One of the biggest diets at the moment is the Keto diet and for a good reason. The Keto diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that boasts many health benefits for those who partake in it. This diet relies on a drastic reduction in carbohydrates and a high intake of fat, which puts the body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When the body enters the state of ketosis, it becomes incredibly efficient in burning fat for energy. This then leads to the main benefit of this diet: weight loss. But, besides being one of the best diets for fast weight loss, this diet also induces many other health benefits for the body.
1.Increases the Amount of “Good” Cholesterol in the Body
According to studies published on AhaJournels, there are two types of cholesterol found in our bodies. The first being what is considered “bad” cholesterol, known as LDL, that increases the chance of heart disease. The other is known as High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and is recognized as the “good” cholesterol. The higher the levels of “good” cholesterol compared to “bad” cholesterol, the lower your risk of heart disease is, according to The American Journal of Cardiology. The best way to increase the amount of “good” cholesterol in your body is to eat fat, and the Keto diet includes consuming high amounts of fat. So, the Keto diet increases HDL levels drastically, which lowers the risk of heart disease for those who are on this diet.
2.Lowers Blood Sugar
This diet is also helpful for people who struggle with diabetes and high-blood sugar levels, as studies published on PubMed have shown that a reduction of carbs leads to an improvement of blood sugar levels. This, however, is not a replacement for blood sugar medication, and you should talk to your doctor before making changes to your carbohydrate intake.
3.Helps the Brain
This diet helps bring about increased memory, cognition, clarity, migraine control, and treatment for brain disorders—specifically epilepsy, according to studies published on PubMed. The exact mechanism behind the therapeutic benefits of this diet for epilepsy is unclear to researchers. However, it has been used since the 1920s to treat children with epilepsy when drug treatments have not worked. But, the average person’s response to this diet is less severe and usually results in increased memory and cognition due to the stability of blood sugar levels and altered brain chemistry.
4.Lowers Blood Pressure
Along with helping reduce blood sugar, cutting your carb intake also lowers blood pressure—as claimed by studies published on PubMed. When lowering blood pressure, it decreases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Therefore, participating in the Keto diet can drastically help the overall health of your body.
5.Reduction of Appetite
One of the main issues people face when dieting is the hunger they experience, which can lead them to quit the diet. However, studies done by PubMed have shown that people who reduce their carb intake and increase their fat and protein consumption end up eating less calories. Therefore, the Keto diet is one of the most effective diets out there today.
Overall, this diet helps keep the total health of the body in tip-top shape. It helps reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes, kidney failure, and type I and II diabetes by reducing blood sugar and blood pressure levels, along with the increased amount of HDL cholesterol. Along with these benefits, it also helps you lose weight fast, and keep it off through the reduction of appetite. This diet is an extremely healthy way to put off weight, while also improving the health of your body. I’ve been on the keto diet for over a year and have lost over 60 pounds. Feel great, easiest thing I’ve ever done, really. The fat is the key and keeps you from craving and being hungry. Every morning, I have a nice fat cup of coffee and that includes cream and MCT oil, but also Leaner Creamer to make it taste delicious! (I like combining Hazelnut and Vanilla.)
